Abstract

The field of conflict and peace studies has passed many stages until reached to independent stage. The UN foundation accompanied with this journey. There is no doubt that the UN has a significant contributions in this field, because this Organization responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security, and it works to achieve a progress and human development to reduce the causes of conflict, and the U.N. has had the lead role in establishing the foundations of preventive diplomacy as one of the methods of conflict prevention and resolution.   The paper tries to deal with a hypothesis, which is, although the UN is an operational international organization, but it has been adopted an academic and research approach. Then the paper had reached the conclusion that the academic and research interest was shown by the UN in conflict and peace studies is a theoretical part of its procedural and practical work in the fields of maintaining international peace and security.
