This study aimed to identify the causes of the spread of fake news and its negative impacts on social development, and to reveal the role of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies supporting Arabic language processing in combating and limiting the spread of fake news. It also sought to anticipate the future of information security and media credibility in light of the rapid development of AI technologies. The study falls under the category of descriptive-analytical research, relying on an analysis of scientific literature and previous studies related to fake news and AI technologies during the period from 2023 to 2025. The study concluded that fake news represents one of the challenges affecting social development due to its negative impacts on societal values, public trust, political processes, public health, and the economy. A review of previous studies also showed that AI technologies based on machine learning and deep learning have achieved promising results in detecting fake news in Arabic. Among the most prominent of these are the BiLSTM and Arabic BERT models, as well as hybrid models combining Text-CNN and LSTM. The study also emphasized the importance of integrating technological solutions with community awareness and educational programs to enhance the credibility of media content and reduce the risks of misinformation, thereby supporting social development.
